My grandfather, Edward Fellows, was born and raised in Castleford. He started working in the coal mine in 1902 - driving donkeys in an out of the mine from the age of 11. Planning a trip in 2019 and looking for a place to search for records of his existence. |

My father bought a grocer\'s shop in Cas in 1970 but it coincided with decimilisation , the \'three day week and the first miner\'s strike. Unfortunately he had to sell up after a year. |

My grandfather, his father and grandfather all lived at 157 Lower Oxford Street according to family history and the 1911 UK Census. I need to know if the row houses on that street were there in 1911 or were they built after 1911. I have several other questions that I will post later. I will be visiting Castleford in September. My great grandfather was Timothy Smith (coal miner), My great great grandfather was Thomas Smith and my grandfather was Thomas Smith (Jr.). My grandfather had several brothers some of whom came to the USA. He had a sister Janet Smith who married and lived in Castleford until she died in the 1970\'s. Unfortunately, I do not know her married name. |
