Notes for MARTHA ELLEN FREY:
The obituary of Martha Frey Fine as in the Covington Stillwater Valley Daily News:
Martha Ellen was the daughter of Gabriel and Susan Frey. She was born in Newberry Township on July 12, 1876. She departed this life at her late residence in Covington in the early morning of Sept. 12th, 1944. She had attained the age of 68 years and 2 months.
On November 30, 1892 she was united in marriage to Fred Fine. Two daughters and three sons were born to the union. Mrs. Find was an able helper to her husband as they journeyed down life's pathway together. For approximately 52 years they shared the varied experiences of rural life, having celebrated their golden wedding anniversary 2 years ago. For 45 years they were actively engaged in the tilling of the soil. About 6 years ago they gave up the heavy responsibilities of the farm and moved just a short distance west of Covington. Following the death of her husband she resided in Covington.
Thus she had attended the local school, established her home, reared her family and spent her entire life in the community of her birth. She had enjoyed good health until about 2 years ago. Since that time she had been failing, but was confinded to the bed just one week.
She loved her home and family. During her active life many neighbors and friends enjoyed the hospitality of her home. She took keen delight in entertaining her friends and associates, and fond memories will long linger in the minds of those who knew her best.
At the tender age of 14 she felt the need of a saviour and united with the Church of the Brethren. For the sake of a united home she went with her husband to the church of his choice, but always had a deep interest and great sympathy for the church of her youth.
Those preceding her in death are the husband who passed away on March the 15th, three grandchildren and eight brothers and sisters.
Surviving are the children: Mildred Cherrington of Dayton, Eva Garity of Covington, Maurice of Bradford, Guy and Frederick of Covington. There are 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Four sisters Mrs. Anna Ressor of Plain City, Mrs. Mellie Brown of Covington, Mrs. Edna Beeman of Toledo, Mrs. Clara Seese of Dayton and one brother Peter Frey of Covington, together with many more distant relatives and friends are left to mourn her departure.
