when i am 50 doing a ironman in 2012

Hi

After reading Dave N inspiring read , i have had a mad moment to aim for a ironman in my 50th year which is 2012, as shortish on cash looking at doing a British one I know there is one in Bolton this year,(next weekend anyone doing it) any body had experience of UK based Ironman as i know Roth had all the support you could want i expert UK Ironmans are not as well supported?, what ever i do it will be a one off and i will be doing it for Charity

Me and Lyns will be doing Ironman in 2012, as instructed so it will be a few halfs next year. Any idea's on which ones to do, Thinking Vit end of year.

Re: when i am 50 doing a ironman in 2012

I may do Vit next year, first i have got to get off my big backside, as with over a year out of doing very little exercise, and even fewer triathlons, I am a few pounds off 17 Stone, have decided to take it very gentle for this year, just aim to loose the weight with gentle exercise, then start of 2011 start a plan to do the vit follow by Weymouth in 2012, then either a UK ironman or abroad if I start saving now

Dave,
As they say " you don't have to be thin to win"
I have just completed Roth at over 16 stone.
The support and relative little extra cost make Roth a must do in my opinion.Your warm up races sound perfect choices.Anything is possible, 16 stone says it is.Best wishes with it all.

Re: when i am 50 doing a ironman in 2012

at the moment i'm leaning to going back to Roth in 2012...

the UK races can't compare for support (or organisation in the case of IMUK), but there are plenty of options if you want to stay in this country to race.

think a two yr plan is good, half's next year and then step it up. like Sean says, its geting around the course that's the key, and if you're going to do one then Roth is a fine race

Re: when i am 50 doing a ironman in 2012

theres a few of us doing the outlaw this year - run by onestepbeyond - its an ironman distance but not ironman branded so is a hec of a lot cheaper! will let you know what the event is like.

The vit is a great race with loads of atmosphere - and despite the scare mongering about the rutland ripple on the bike, i actually found the bike course at trentham half this year harder than the vit.

Goodluck whichever you choose!

Hi Dave, will be great to see you back on it again. I "WILL" be doing Roth again in 2012 and i am at present in negotition with Andrea to get her to commit to doing Roth too, don't tell her though.Lol

Re: when i am 50 doing a ironman in 2012

Cheers Dave, happy to have inspired you, the training will not only set you up for the end goal of the ironman it will also, if you are true to the form of all of us who have just completed the iron distance will set you up with pb's in all of the shorter distances as well. Good luck, just keep picturing the finish line and you will get there.

I have no others to go by but Roth is excellent. Well worth saving for.

Re: when i am 50 doing a ironman in 2012

Hi Dave

Having completed Two olympics I fancy doing a couple
of Big Halfs next year Trentham and the vitruvian.

Then I too would like to achieve my ultimate goal and
do Ironman in 2012 thinking of Bolton UK.
I will be in my 53rd year.
Cheers

Re: when i am 50 doing a ironman in 2012

Dave and Dave, I've been totally inspired by reading Dave's totally inspiring and 'from the heart' race report, And also speaking to Bri who's also been there offering great advice for me... Hats off to all you you guys who did Roth!! IT Dave, I've got an inclination that I'd like to atempt Ironman in 2012. I think for the whole experiance as what I've heard from all, it has to be Roth I think! I'd like that more than crucial advice and training plan that Digger gave Dave. Any offers?? sure Share will join me too? So Dave, I'm in!! Age will be 47 in 2012, not quite 50, but sometimes feel it!!!
