I am one of the fortunate ones, I LOVE what I do and I get paid for it! My students (all 210 of them) are learning about Faith and her wonderful artwork. We started this school year with Faith because my curriculum theme is 'Art is Imagination, Art is MAGIC!" I have found that children are becoming less and less imaginative in their everyday life. I mean to get the fire going again and what better way than with the art of Faith and her flying children! They are loving it!
They know that Faith grew up in Harlem and recently noticed a similarity in one piece of her work that reminded them of an artist we studied last year, Romare Bearden (we did an amazing interpretation of THE BLOCK using all grade levels...we joined the individual pieces together to show the unity and diversity of our school.) Their question is "Did Faith ever get the opportunity to meet Mr. Bearden and if so, what was it like?" They are dying to know.
