Hello! I was lucky enough to do a presentation on you and your work to my daughter's 2nd grade class. They were inspired by your story and your work. The kids created a mini story quilt square as a culminating activity and illustrated a favorite memory in the center. Beautiful!

I had two questions that day:

(1) Is the little girl (Cassie) flying in Tar Beach you and/or was she inspired by thoughts/dreams you had when you were on your roof with your family?
(2) Are the pieces of the newspaper print you used in the piece significant in any way?
