I'm trying to find out if any sailors were allowed shore leave while in Japan between August and December of 1945 (before returning to California, San Francisco, I think). Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Don't know if you have found the info you need. Perhaps this may help. Not sure about shore leave, but there was work details on shore,as the Quincy was part of the occupation force. Your post reminded me of my father. Due to a bad storm the last boat taking sailors back to the Quincy was canceled, leaving some sailors stranded on shore. My father and another sailor stayed the night at the home of a japanese couple. Ken White
