Re: sqdrn 408-traing crash 21st Dec 1943 topcliffe
note 408 Book of Remembrance from 1984 p. 19 has for 21Dec 1943
only F/O R.S. Clark J20183 and F/O T.E. Major J21628 are listed for this same date
Book of Remembrance supplemented 2007 and in a flat file database format contains an addition:
CLARK, Russell Stanley Flying Offr (Pilot) J/20183 RCAF 21-Dec-43 UK - Harrogate (Stonefall) Cem, Yorks
FORSTER, Kenneth Sgt (Flt Engr) 1581900 RAFVR 21-Dec-43 UK - Stoke-on-Trent (Hartshill) Cem, Staffs 408 Sqdn in Squadron History
MAJOR, Thomas Ernest Flying Offr (Pilot) J/21628 RCAF 21-Dec-43 UK - Harrogate (Stonefall) Cem, Yorks
Note the new reference to the Squadron history.
I am forwarding this to the 408 squadron museum officer in order to obtain elaboration of what that Squadron history contains. (museum@forfreedom.ca)
I'll assume that he was killed in a Mark II Lancaster, since that is what the Squadron was flying on ops. There had been an operational sortie on the 20th Dec and there was another on the 29 Dec.
Perhaps They Shall Grow Not Old may say something different, such as the Aircraft he was in.
