Re: Re: What's going on here??

Yeah, she's urinating, and it definitely has a regular urine scent. I got real familiar with the smell of really dilute urine with her brother. I FINALLY got her to eat some cat food, which is the good news. The bad news is, it was Sheba. Unbelievable. 39 cents a can and she eats it. I guess it's like feeding a kid Twinkies. Well, at least it's (more or less) nutritionally balanced, being actual cat food, so I don't have to worry so much about her letting herself starve to death, just to spite me. I guess we'll do that for now and try to wean her back to her K/D as the days go on. The vet *did* say better something than nothing.

Is she urinating? When my "Little Kitty" finally quit, she couldn't even urinate right. Water just ran through her body--no control, no scent. that's a long sad story, and she wasn't even 5 years old. If you want to talk to me, you can! Vicki

Hi all:

I am having a general nervous breakdown here, mostly because neither my vet nor I can figure out what's going on here. My 11 y.o. cat, Asti, went in for a general checkup at the end of May and I asked the vet to run her kidney numbers just in case, because her younger "brother" died of CRF earlier this year (March), a year after diagnosis. When her numbers came back, there was some indication of early CRF (CREA 2.6, BUN in the 50's), but not too bad. I had recently put her back on regular cat food after my other cat's death, but changed her back to K/D and started sub-Q's once a week, 100 ml/time.

Last week, she went back in for another check and her CREA has increased HUGELY (now 5.7) as has her BUN (97). However, everything else (red blood cell count, potassium, calcium, phosphorus) are fine, and she has not been vomiting or acting sick. The vet thought maybe she had a UTI and wanted to get a urine sample for culture, but after several attempts resulting in her emptying her bladder on the vet tech whenever she was removed from the cage, he decided not to try anymore because she was getting too stressed out (clawing her face, biting, etc.) He gave Baytril "flavor-tabs" to give her at home for the next three weeks, assuming an infectious process, and increased her sub-Q's to 100 ml every day.

Unfortunately, she refused to take the pills orally and kept throwing them up three seconds after I got her to swallow them. I tried grinding them up into peanut butter, cat food and several other things, but she could smell it and refused to eat them. In fact, she started refusing to eat ANYTHING and hiding from me under furniture. The vet then gave me the antibiotic in 1 CC injectible syringes, to be injected into the line while she gets her sub-Q's. This is working, but she's still not eating cat food. I can get her to eat a few mouthfuls of tuna or cooked chicken or turkey breast, but nothing else. She hasn't had a bowel movement since Wednesday or possibly Thursday morning, I assume because she isn't eating enough to produce one, although she continues to urinate.

Sorry to run on so long, but now I'm wondering if this not eating is "can't eat" because she's continuing to get sicker, or "won't eat" because she doesn't trust and is angry at me for the Baytril disguising. The vet wants me to call on Monday, but I'm getting increasingly frustrated with her not eating and growling at me when I try to get her to.

HELP!!!!
