Hi, can anyone advise me how I can best achieve a replica of the "Blues-90" pickups. I am building a Blueshawk from a plan & need to sort out cavity shapes etc.
I believe normal P-90's are not as powerful & was even considering standard P-90's or a humbuckers. Has anyone any tips on converting a P-90 for a "Hawk" or what would work?
Many thanks, Hollow John.
Hi All,
How sad is it to reply to your own post, but I will for anyone interested.
Since completing my home built Hawk from a plan I have been knocked out by the tone of some standard, slightly over wound P-90's. With or without the Varitone from Big D, which is superb.
I have read an a couple of more communicative sites (My Les Paul etc.) that a couple of people hated the thin sound of the Blues 90's and swapped 'em for P-90's to better effect. I appreciate this is subjective, as most tone issues are.
The one I used are "scatter wound" slightly over wound ones from "Bare Knuckles Pickups", hand made in the UK. I would recommend these to anyone. (Similar to Lindsey Fralins I guess.)
