1893 Scared Heart Mission
On 17 Jun 1893 William Delleno Sivils was born at Scared Heart Mission, Indian Territory, Ok. Does anyone know were Scared Heart Mission was located?
In August of 1898 the family was in Eufaula, Indain Territory; in October of 1900 in Wewoka and still there in 1920. Thanks

Sacred Heart Mission was founded by French Benedictine Monks Fr. Isidore and Brother Dominic Lambert in May 1877 near the South Canadian River, about 35 miles south of present-day Shawnee, OK.
It is the predessor to St. Gregory's Monastery in Shwanee, OK.
The above information was obtained from the book "Tulsa - This Far by Faith" by James D. White, Historial of Diocese of Tulsa.

Mike, Thanks for the information on Scared Heart Mission location. Just visited the Shawnee, OK area in October 2004 but at that time did not know I needed to look for Scared Heart Misssion. Will return.

sacred heart is located 8 miles east of asher on hwy 39 go 8 mi east turn north a mile the gate is normaly open but sometimes closed in the winter you can walk there the old foundations remains of several buildings a few split logs and two or three cemetarys just a really peacefull place well worth the drive hope this helps john
