I just found this sight. Wow! I was sent to JI right of Tech School. I worked in Supply, and for the first three months there, I was the lowest ranking Airman on the island. What a shock it was stepping off the "Red Tail". No mention of radiation problem. They just told me not to eat the paint or dirt – so I didn’t. But I did look forward to Steak Night, and drinking heavily at the NCO club. Even though I wasn’t an NCO, they let me drink there cause they were such nice guys………..
Good to reminisce.
