Hey T.C., this is probably a silly question but do you know a cousin of mine, Jim Mcnitt, who has lived in Grass Valley for some time? I have no idea how big of a town Grass Valley is. I have been enjoying your posts. We and a couple of other bikes took a swing over to the Coast in September '09. Went north to San Fran, then over to Yosemite and Kings Canyon, and then home. A very memorable trip! Take care and don't freeze.

Sorry to take so long to get back to ya. The name McNitt rings a bell but I can't say I know him.

There are only 3 large citys/towns in Nevada County...
GV as of 2009 has a pop of 12,817 (but I think this includes some of the unincorporated areas.)
Nevada city has a pop of 3,060.
Truckee is the largest with a pop of 16,241
There are a number of smaller towns that have a pop of less than 1,000 mostly old gold rush towns...

Nevada county has a pop of 95,300 & a total of 1,173.3 miles of roads & Hwys and takes up a total of 612,900 acres (978 Sq miles)
We have an average of 54" of rain in the lower western part of the county (2,000 Ft elev) & 202" of snow in the eastern part of the county (5,900 Ft elev)

Our house is at approx 2,290 ft Elev & for the last 5 years we've had at least 3-4 snow falls of 3-12" I usually ride 95% of the year, coldest it's been leaving the garage for work @ 05:00 has been 17f. Gail (& others) think I nutz for riding when it's like that but with the right Gear & a properly maintained machine.... No problem.... Right RR!!!
