Ferrous Fools Long Day Out

I'd agree the vintage info can create the perception of a 'once active club.' May be a few 'old boys' sitting in club blazers, round a warm fire, wooly booties on, sipping mulled Napoleon Brandy ! ( ps this is not a dig at Tubbs ) Better to lose the out of date info than display it without reference to the clubs current buoyancy ...and success !

I can't help noticing that there aren't many women members of the club. Something should be done to encourage more females into such a fine activity and redress the balance. How about some 'snapshots' or profiles of some of the fine achievements by lady members, conveying a holistic impression of the many health, fitness, confidence and social benefits of involvement on any level ? Too much of a macho focus eg IronMan branding...long solitary training, race results and performance rather than social and physical personal benefita and achievements etc does nothing in my opinion to broaden the horizon and open up participation amongst those not already initiated into competitive sport. Basically, there are loads of female runners, diddly squat female cyclists and just a smidgen of Triathletes ? |

Nick, Some great ideas. I think it would be good for the coaches to post the sessions that they deliver. Then people can copy them into their training log. A club shop is also a good idea and a great way to make some extra revenue. Regards, Simon. |

Re: the Ironman branding comment. Travis loved it when I went out training the other night and left him with the ironing basket (about the first time in our 7-year marriage but the result of training for an IM event). He asked me whether he had become the 'ironman'! So girls, it's a liberating experience!!

Both can be drudgery, and can lead to wondering why you're bothering to do it; when, at the end of the day, the reuslting garment and person are both crumpled and worn out

For total beginners to the club, can there be links for: How do you get information about competitions? Advice on race day, (etiquette)? Tips for beginners from experienced competitors Nutrition/recovery tips Jargon busters If links were available for the above it might encourage the new club members! The Don
