The new covenant was with them for forty years (the time of testing). The people as a whole failed again in the new covenant. This is not hard to believe. It happened with each covenant that God made with them. In "right division" we learn that the "grafting in" was only for a short time. The purpose for the "grafting in" was to provoke Israel to emulation. It was for the purpose of causing Israel to be jealous of the Gentiles coming to Christ, the Jewish Messiah and in that jealous condition, return to Christ also. This "grafting in," like the "new covenant" did not work for the Nation as a whole. Leave the "grafting in" and the "new covenant" in the first century, where it belongs and Grace remains pure for us today. Those who were "grafted in" were warned that they could also be broken off like the natural branches (Israelites) were. Today, we can not be broken off from the life source. This is "right division." |
