CHASE FOR PROMOTION – HOW IT LOOKS?

Looking at the table after last weeks results you can see that only the teams down to sixth place are able to catch us. Titans, Storm and Crown Inn Glory would have to win all their remaining games and we would have to lose all of ours for them to catch us and deny us promotion, so we can assume that they are in fact out of the chase, they can only reach a maximum points of 54.

Portreath are still in the hunt for a promotion place, however, they would have to win all their games and hope that we lose at least 4 to pip us to promotion, as they can still reach 60 points. Fortunately for us we have to play them at home in three weeks time, if we then take three points from them it should all but knock them out of the running.

A further factor to take into account on all the teams chasing us (apart from Chacewater) is our superior goal difference, which is often stated gives a team the equivalent of an additional point when it comes to the crunch at the end of the season.

This will just leave Chacewater who are in a strong position as they can reach a max of 75 points; while we can only reach 71 (if we did this then Chacewater would pip us to the title by 1 point). Therefore it is fair to presume that Chacewater will definately get promotion due to their games in hand, unless they hit the self destruct button, and unless they drop further points they will claim the Div 3 Title, however, I know from the spirit in the squad we will push them all the way which will make a very interesting finish to the season.

The games that we have left are:

HOME:

OPPOSITION DATE POSITION** PREV MEETING
Portreath Res 29/03 3rd Won 6-2
Madron Res 19/4 15TH Won 4-2
Titans TBA 4TH Drew 3-3
Chacewater Res TBA 2ND Lost 3-2
Gulval Res TBA 8TH Won 5-4

AWAY:

OPPOSITION DATE POSITION** PREV MEETING
Cornish New Boys 5/4 6th Won 7-0
Wendron Utd 5ths TBA 13TH Won 4-1

Games left: 7 Total Points available: 21

**As of the 1st March 08.

Conclusion:

Promotion is not yet assured but well and truely in the hands of the team. With the majority of games at Polstain Road, the Reserves stand an excellant chance of being a Division 2 side next year,

Looking at the betting with Paddy Power it seems the bookies feel the same as the team is 1/10 on to finish in the top two, however, 3/1 on winning the title, with Chacewater 1/3 on becoming champions and 2/20 on winning promotion.
