1sts and 2nds
i dnt understand that the 2nds have been winning a lot of games comfortably and the 1sts have lost a few so why doesnt phil call a few of the 2nds up such as bert popey and nick boase. i no phil is a good manager but i think he needs to chop and change some of his team

Re: 1sts and 2nds
From what I have just been told you big mouth second teamers should just crawl back under your rocks where you come from and keep your god **** mouths shut.
As i have just been told by the first team manger that he asked you boys to go with first team today (sat 10th Feb) and you replies were you wasn't going to go as donyt want to sit on the bench!!!
Great team spirit as 5 first team out and I would hazord a good guess thats your chances of playing first team this season gone out the window along with any respect we had for you!!!!!
TOTALLY ASHAMED!!!

Re: 1sts and 2nds
there is no point being a football club if 1st n 2nd teamers r arguing with each other. To get into the 1st team you have got to work hard and when you get your chance take it, instead of moaning that phil doesnt take a few of the 2nds teamers to try turn thing round.

Re: 1sts and 2nds
I must agree that I would love to see some of the 2nd teamers given a chance including Tom. Although as I understand it he is injured which is unlucky as I'm sure he would have played on Sat.. but that is how football is sometimes, I'm sure he will get another chance. As for players being given more of a chance both Bert and Nick have played for the 1st this season and although they did ok, they did not shine or show that they are better in those positions (not saying that they won't). So should settle for a place on the bench when asked until they can or if they can show that they deserve to start.
As for other players everyone has to start somewhere and untill they are happy to sit on the bench and show their ability it will never happen. How do you think the rest of us got here we have all sat on the bench for long periods, until we made our place our own. You do not get given a position you must earn it!
As for being contacted, why not take the 'bull by the horns' and text Phil when you know that your game is off and offer your services... it can't hurt can it.. Oh and a thankyou to Lawrance for his 2nd half performance in goal for us on Sat.
Cheers

Re: 1sts and 2nds
hey
steve you say u got to start some where like on the bench then work ur way in the team 2nds or first but recently 2 new player have join the club and both of them turn up for training but walked straight into the first . Now surely these to players should be startin in the seconds for a week or 2 then go up . as you say it a club and not two teams.

Re: 1sts and 2nds
JP fair enough mate, perhaps at training you should grab his number enough players have it!! :) And yes I would like to see you given a chance as you are a good player!!
As for Nick, yes he did get a vital goal and took it very well but he did look nervous and it was not his best game.. although there is no questioning that their is deffinate talent there and with more games and more confidence I'm sure he would be a regular feature..
Again I do not know the full ins and outs as I'm not sure what players did say those things but I can say one thing their attitude will not get them a game and is unwanted no matter how good a player they are, I would be surprised if they got another shot in the 1st team for a very long time.
As for the 2 new boys... yes they have both been training for a while.. sorry not sure on their names (old age is playing up on me) but 1 is a defender and 1 a midfielder. The defender has been on the bench for the last 2 weeks, I believe he was offered to Lawrance on the 1st game but he already had his side sorted (lets face it you lot are on a good roll) We were short of players and were relugtant to take players and reduce your squad when you are doing so well. So it was thought that we would take him. When he played he was excellent and did a great job.
The 2nd player, not too sure although I do know that he came from Goonhaven and is a great player.. Again this is all I know and only Lawrance and Phil will know the full story and I assure you it is not 1 big conspiracy!! lol
Oh and I know Harry has been texted several times asking him to play and Phil has not heard a thing back.. lets face it the 1st are not playing their best at the moment but do not become a bad team over night and consistancy is the key to most great sides so you can't go swapping the whole team each week, you start to play like strangers that way and the majority of the 1st team have played together for a long time, and have been very successfull so you have to earn that right!!!

Re: 1sts and 2nds
OK many of you may know me and to be fair most will not. Mike Stevens Gulval 20 years and counting! Chairman and currently Reserve team manager.
It is the same problem at all clubs, decent 1st eleven and tidy reserve side, 1st 11 hit a sticky patch and the reserves feel like they should get a chance!
The truth is its very difficult, not only the balance of the 2 teams but the what can be achieved for the club.
As an "outsider" looking in, my advice would be hang in there, you have 2 very exciting teams with good prospects. Phil is a astute and clever manager and Laurence a breath of fresh air to Junior football. You may win something and similarly may win something, but knee jerk reactions kill Junior sides.
Believe me at Gulval we have the same problems and whether you choose yto believe it or not are very similar.
Do what you are doing and I hope you will have healthy competitive sides and I also hope that the Gulval sides will be competing with you!

Re: 1sts and 2nds
I can understand the frustration of my reserve players as they have played extremely well for most of the season, however if you want to play for the firsts turning down a call up isn't a good idea - not that i'm saying this actually happened but giving the reason you dont want to sit on the bench isn't really good enough.
Genuine reasons such as too short notice are fair enough but as i can only call off a game on a saturday morning how can it be any longer notice? If our match this week is called off i'll text everyone due to play for me as per usual and include phil's number so anyone who wants to can offer their services.
Also anyone ivolved in mining 3 will tell you there are other factors apart from who you actually want to play in each team. For example the madron game Tom was all set to play for the firsts until i got told we had no ref - therefore i had to ref it and obviously couldn't play in goal. The week after Tom injured his hand! Bit of bad luck to be honest.
What i'm saying is be patient. I guarantee that those of you who are good enough will get your chance in the first team sooner or later and its up to you to take it. Don't forget there will be plenty of midweek games at the end of the season and player availabilty can be an issue in these games. Playing 90 minutes for a decent reserve side will not do any of you any harm either! If you are enjoying your football (which i hope most of you are) then what's the big rush? Let's not create a rift between the teams as the banter has been better than ever this season up until now.
Also thanks for the kind words Stevie and General! I got a bit lucky on Saturday its fair to say!!

Re: 1sts and 2nds
Thought i'd better comment on this subject just so as you don't think i'm ignoring everyone.
I've read all the messages and some good points have been raised and some points that are a load of tosh!
The reason that the call was such late notice on sat was because i rang Storm at 11'ish to find out if our game was going to be on or off-(half expecting it to be off). They were on the way to look at the pitch, but didn't ring me back to say it was on till 12-15. In the meantime Fairlo and Bailer rang me to say they couldn't play. Firstly i text harry and bert (who have always done well for 1st). no reply from popey so i tried nick. Was a bit strapped for time by this point so asked Gaffer to try and get hold of anyone who could play. He tried a few but couldn't get anyone either. by this time it was 1 o'clock. Bit long winded but hope that sort of explains that.
Another point that has been raised is the use of some players that join the club and who go straight into the 1st team. In an ideal world this would not happen, but if i were to take three of the 2nd teams best players to fill my bench and left a couple of new lads who no one had seen play to fill their boots this wouldn't help either side. It gives me a chance to suss out the new players as well a keeping the second teams chances of promotion on track.
Another problem we face with rotation is when we play a Dunn cup game (27/01/07), if i were to use any second teamers in that game-no matter how short i was-they would then not be able play in the jollys shield. Not very fair, but that is the rule and it is in place to stop teams loading up with 1st teamers in the reserve team cups. This doesn't apply in the Arthur Pearce cup which Bert had 90 minutes and Giles had 45.
This season has gone really well so far with the banter between 1st and seconds, Training has been a good mix of both teams and working along side Gaffer this year has been a pleasure. Lets keep it that way and work together to bring in more silver to add to last years booty.
Any further questions don't be afraid to ask me at training or in the social club. I might look like a miserable F****r but i am quite friendly really.

Re: 1sts and 2nds
I think that every 2nd teamer jumps at the chance 2 play for the firsts as i no i do. I am by no means 1 of the top players for the 2nds bt hav bin called up for the 1sts a few times and showed i am perfectly willing 2 sit on the bench and wait for my chance as iv gone along and not got any playing time in 1 of the matches bt am still happy 2 go along as 2 start with for the 2nds this season i had 2 sit on the bench an wait for my chance as i was a new playr. Its also very hard 2 impress depending on the how the games is going especially if ur only getting 15 minuets. So it is bit unfair 2 always judge a 2nd teamers performance 4 the firsts when theyr are thrown on into a situation that they wud potentialy find hard to gt a rythm if the same thing were to happen 2 them in the 2nds. As with offering yourself 2 phil if the 2nd team game is cancld i normally do bt i no if the likes of jp nick burt and popey have also done that then i am unlikely 2 b needed so tend not 2 bother unless gaffer says they cud do with sum players. I think if u can c the quality is there as it is with JP nick burt an popey they shud b continued 2 b called up when possibl even if so far their performances have not bin up 2 their usual high standards and should also b given as much time as possible 2 try 2 impress.
