Hello to everyone!
I must apologize for not staying in touch with you all over the past 15 months. My life has taken some big changes this past year and I just wasn’t able to sit at my computer to keep everyone in the loop. So are you wondering what I’ve been up to? Here’s a run down for you as well as some details. If you want more details on any of it just ask and I’ll give you the long version. Also the order of events may not be exactly right so if things don’t fall into place properly just take into account its been some time since a lot of this has happened.
Beginning of 2005.
Stu Segall had spent a few years creating a training program for law enforcement, emergency units and the military. Each month in 2004 seemed to get a little busier with this work. I of course was called in to provide realistic wounds. 2005 started with a bang as the USMC started to take full advantage of what we had to offer. I found myself in meetings with some of the top military surgeons getting the info and photos needed to create realistic and treatable wounds. I’ve made all sorts of “war” wounds that bleed and can be stitched up. In addition we hired amputees so I can blow off legs and arms. I have to admit that the first time a guy dressed as a Marine flew out of building (via an explosion) missing a leg that bled everywhere I felt a little ill. The medics freaked out as thought it was a real injury. One guy puked and the other two just stared until our bad guys shot them. Much of the work I’ve done is available for viewing on the website (www.strategicoperationsonline.com). Anytime you see blood I was there!
The Dark.
A TV pilot came into the lot called “The Dark”. My crew and I were hired to create 18 dead bodies. They ranged from 3-month-old bodies to a year old (skeletons). It was a lot of fun to build the bodies although I had very little time to complete them. As usual people around the studio caught wind of what I was doing so the day I brought the bodies up for the director (Walter Hill) to have a look I had an audience. They still talk of the bodies today. Of course I created quite a stir in town when seen driving my pick up truck with a bed full of corpses!
Divorce.
Yep, you heard right. Just before driving out of town on a military job the now EX-MRS. DD informed me that she was leaving. True to her word she was gone when I got back two weeks later. This was the cause of my disappearance from the Internet; it was quite a blow considering we were together for 23 years.
Lots more Military jobs.
More of the same but the wounds are more complex and we are doing them every month!
TV pilot “Desire”.
A pilot for a series called Desire comes to the studio and I spend the next 30 days working as a prop assistant. The schedule was crazy and we worked from 3 in the afternoon to 6 in the morning. It was nice to have a steady paycheck for a month I didn’t have any work listed. The best part is I met my girlfriend (possible Mrs. DD, it has been discussed). Ok, I met her before the pilot so lets just say I got her on the show for four nights as a background actor and night number one was our first kiss, the relationship progressed quickly from there.
More military jobs.
More of the same and getting pretty steady.
Desire: Table For Three.
The pilot got picked up by FOX and I signed on as a permament part of the prop crew with the understanding that I can come and go as I need to to complete my obligations to the military jobs.
More military jobs.
Now we are being flown to locations across the U.S. I’ve been to a few different states blowing up Marines. I just got back from North Carolina where CBS news came by to do a story on us. Want to see it? Go to www.cbsnews.com, look at the bottom of the page to a story called “This Town was built for Training and click the watch button. You will see a clip of me and my assistant doing make up (who do you think my assistant could be?). It was an unscheduled event so if the make up is a little cheesy cut me some slack….I was notified when I arrived I had 1 hour to do three amputees and 8 marines.
So, I’m sure I left out some stuff but that’s the events of my life since I disappeared till tonight. I blow up Marines and work props on a soap opera and I still try to maintain a normal relationship even though I see her for an hour at night before I crash out.
New I-Man DVD’s?!
I came into possession of some “B” camera footage as well as “Insert” shots from I-Man. I’m putting the footage onto DVD so if there is any interest in it let me know and I’ll make it available to you.
I will try and stay in touch better from now on, maybe we can meet up in one of the chat rooms.
