Lewis tribute album - a little off topic but may be of interest
SOUL REALITY A Tribute Album in Appreciation of the Work of Lewis Taylor To say Lewis Taylor is an unrecognised genius isn’t really correct. Seldom, if ever, has an artist, so unknown to the general public, been so feted by fellow musicians. Artists as diverse as David Bowie, Chaka Khan, Aaliyah, Elton John, Paul Weller, Michael Hutchence, D’Angelo and more, plus a whole range of influential US rappers and producers, have all signalled deep appreciation of Taylor’s particular form of ‘psychedelic soul’. When – all too predictably – the majors eventually turned their back on his considerable talent in favour of throwaway boy bands, it was left to a hard-core group of (worldwide) fans to keep the lovelight burning. An excellent fan website at http://www.lewistaylormusic.com, created and maintained by the ever-supportive Hadena, became (and remains) the focal point for support and interest in Taylor’s work. The fan site is, perhaps unsurprisingly, populated by more than it’s fair share of talented musicians and, hence, the idea of a ‘tribute record’ emerged. This ‘record’ - ‘Lewis by Numbers’ - is a wholly non -commercial venture; it’s purely intended as an act of appreciation to a master artist. I doubt that any of the contributors have any particular pretensions about this collection – who, for one thing, could compete with the work of Lewis Taylor? – but, if nothing else, it does provide some interesting interpretations of Lewis’s songs. Because, under all his trademark majestic arrangements, spine-tingling atmospherics, soaring guitar work, heavenly choirs and angelic singing – Lewis actually writes some very compelling tunes. So, here it is. Without pretension and with total warmth and affection, this is our little act of appreciation to the towering work of Lewis Taylor. Lewis, we, at least, can see your way! And/or visit:- http://www.lozdesignz.com/lbn/ You'll find some (higher quality) Mp3s and all the cd artwork... so you can make your 'own' album (free of charge!) if you are so inclined. Is there any other fan website that can boast such talent? (fortunately my own appearance is very fleeting!!) |
