some questions

Some questions

Hi all,

I’m thinking of taking a reiki I class at the end of the month but I have some questions about it and particularly about preparing myself for it.

I have only ever had one session of reiki myself, about 6 years ago, which I found to be a very weird but wonderful experience. It was a particularly difficult and busy time of my life and I went in to it thinking that if all I got from it was half an hour to lie down and listen to nice music I’d be happy! What I got was much more. I experienced that lovely feeling of heat, particularly around my shoulders, even when the practitioner was at my feet. I came away feeling more energetic than I had for years and even thought I could see better, my mind was so clear. Now the weird bit, towards the end of the session (pardon me if that’s the wrong word) I heard this tapping just outside my right ear… tap tap tap…tap tap tap. First I thought it was a clock, then I thought it was the practitioners watch and thought she just had her wrist right near my ear, but why was it stopping and starting? This went on for a couple of minutes, then whoosh.. it felt like it went right into my ear and the tapping stopped! I asked the practitioner about it, she had no watch, there was no clock in the room and no obvious answer as to what it could be. It didn’t really sound like a heartbeat, though maybe my senses were heightened and that’s what it was… doesn’t explain the whooshing and feeling of something going in there! Maybe it was a bug! I really don’t know. The practitioner was quite light hearted about it and said maybe it was someone knocking and saying “listen to me!” Have any of you ever come across this kind of experience? Any explanations?

Secondly, I really am not very good at relaxing and winding down. I tried to meditate once years ago but found that I felt a little bit freaked out when I started to feel like I was losing control and I never tried it again. I feel like a do have a bit of a journey on that one but I feel like I am ready to take that step but I’m not sure where to start. Any advice? I have 2 small kids so quiet time is rare in this house though they do go to bed early.

I really do want to do this now. Life has settled somewhat. I’m working freelance so have control over my time to a certain extent. I’ve also spent a lot of time in the last few years focusing on work and babies and have had very little time for me. I think it is time to do something for me and I think that something should be about relaxation and energy building and self development. My one experience with reiki was enough to lead me in that direction. I’m thinking of doing it purely for me, and not to become a practitioner, but if life took me in that direction I wouldn’t mind.
Thanks for reading my epic. Any advice on how to prepare myself over the next few weeks would be very welcome.

Re: some questions

Hi Paula,

This is going to be a short answer, which I'll expand on once you write back.

It really blows me away that the teacher you're considering doesn't have, even rudimentary, preparation guidelines for his/her class. Have you picked a teacher; have they given you a heads up?

The experience you had in your only Reiki session is completely natural. The explanation your practitioner gave you is a good one. It can be explored deeper, in a variety of ways. Knocking can be an alarm, getting your attention, parts of you or your life attempting to communicate with you. One way to see it is that it was the knock that brought you to your present intention to slow down and self-heal.

Let me know and I'll provide some more info.

Re: some questions

Hi and thanks,

I've only spoken briefly on the telephone with the RM. She hasn't fixed a date for the level I but will get back to me when she does. Given that we were speaking by mobile phone and the coverage wasn't great and my kids were shouting in the background we weren't really able to have an in depth talk but I presume and hope I will get more details and preparation guidelines from her when we speak again. She came recommended by a friend of mine who is level II and a practitioner. I've been trying to find someone closer to me who practices so I can be "reikied" a few more times before the workshop but so far no luck. The RM lives 60k away and my friend lives 80k. i'll keep trying though. I really do have to work on the quiet time, meditation etc.... but I am finding it difficult.

Thanks for your help. any advice greatly appreciated!

Re: some questions

It looks like you're in Europe. Definitely don't be afraid to ask questions. Call the RM back when it's quiet around you. And getting more sessions before training is an excellent idea, as well as a great way to prepare.

I teach one-on-one when there aren't enough people for a small group, rather tahn make people wait. I also provide distant sessions, and an online/homestudy program. In fact I provide discounts for packaged services. Let me know if that interests you.

And definitely let me know if she doesn't have specific guidelines before her class.
