volume control
between 0 and about 3 on a scale of 10 in the knob travel controls almost all the volume. the rest of knob turning has almost no effect. is it supposed to be that way? How is it with other Blueshawks? |

Yup that's what it is like on all 'Hawks I've come across, and a great many other guitars as well - I've had G&Ls and Teles with the same problem. Tone controls can also suffer the same problem.

This volume lack-of control thing is due to: 1. Too big of a treble bleed cap with no resistor. This causes the the bass to roll off instead as you try to turn down the volume. 2. The Gibson 300k linear taper pot. I removed the bleed cap altogether and got a more typical taper with just a little treble loss, which is what I prefer anyway. You could always just replace the .005 cap with something smaller like a .001-.002. I've long planned to replace the pot with a 500k audio taper w/ a switch but haven't yet. |
